MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY

Instrumental Medical Technology by Dalton Bishop

The medical instruments have improved a tremendous amount from the time they were invented until now. I would've never trusted the tools they used back then, but the technology and the things these new tools could do now are unbelievable. The technology from when the tools first were invented until now has improved a lot. The tools barely could even cut and now they can cut on there own.

What Does a Medical Instrument Technician Do?

Specializations

While it is possible to train in the use of more than one type of medical instrument, all medical instrument technicians do not necessarily know how to operate and maintain a wide variety of instruments. Most job openings will require that you possess knowledge of a specific type of medical instrument. You could choose to specialize in the use of medical technologies that include the following:
  • Electrocardiograph (EKG)
  • Electroencephalograph (EEG)
  • Electromyograph (EMG)
  • Exercise tolerance testing system or stress test
  • Ultrasound
  • Spirometer
  • Arterial blood gas analyzer
  • Dialyzer

Job Duties

In general, as a medical instrument technician, you'll clean, maintain, and test medical instruments. You may also operate equipment while under the direction of a physician and perform a test or procedure. Your job will likely require frequent patient contact and you'll need to have excellent communication skills. You may be responsible for positioning the patient, explaining procedures, and ensuring a patient's comfort during testing. Depending on the procedure, you may be called upon to monitor a patient for a long period of time. For example, while performing hemodialysis, the dialyzer may need to function for hours before the filtering process is complete.

Education

The level of education you'll need to complete will depend on the area of specialization that you'd like to pursue. Most medical instrument technicians are required to have at least a year of experience, either through previous employment or an accredited training program. Other positions may require an associate's or bachelor's degree in a field like surgical technology or cardiovascular technology. Most jobs in this field also require you to know how to perform basic life support techniques, including cardiopulmonary resus
citation (CPR). State licensure may be required for some positions.

This type of instrument is a endoscopic that is used to grab thing when operating. They used to either grab it with their hands or something not really suitable for the job.

The stethoscope has helped out the doctors a lot, and can tell you a lot about how the heart is reacting, and if you have shortness of breathe.

These basic tools have improved a lot. These little cutting tools are way sharper now, and back then im sure the scissors the had were really dull, and couldn't cut much of anything.

This picture describes how bad the tools were, and you can tell they weren't cleaned very well. This picture does its justice about the description of instrumental technology. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxancientpoint.com

Advancements in surgical procedures and processes by Austin Myers

There has been huge changes in the way medical procedures and surgeries are performed. We used to do the with bone saws and MAYBE a bit of numbing agents to make you not feel the agony you were really going through, but now we do things with lasers, LASERS. The preciseness and pretty much perfect cuts and surgeries these machines can do is incredible. The laser can go up to millimeters deep to inches deep, whatever they're programmed to do, they'll do it with no glitches or malfunctions. We even use lasers for eye sugeries for the blind to help them become a little less likely to go COMPLETELY blind. But its never a guarantee that it'll wok, every machine or technological device has some glitch or malfunction some day but not at the rate we're tweaking them and programming them with unbelievable nanochips or devices in them to be as precise as they are.
