Military Drones

What are military drones?

  • To the military, they are UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) or RPAS (Remotely Piloted Aerial Systems). However, they are more commonly known as drones. Drones are used in situations where manned flight is considered too risky or difficult.

How do military drones work?

Military drones are controlled by a few people at a station miles away from where it is being flown, that way soldiers are farther away from the conflict and the battlefield.

How fast can military drones be?

  • The Falcon HTV-2 drone flies at approximately 13,000 miles per hour!

What are the benefits of military drones?
  1. Saves Lives: It takes the military personnel out of harms way and could potentially save hundreds of lives.
  2. Low Cost: The drones are much cheaper, compared to airplanes. For example, Fuel, cheaper to purchase, and maintain better
  3. Lethal: Military Drones can be just as lethal as airplanes, with a lot lower cost.
  4. Deployment: Drones are a lot faster and easier to deploy than soldiers. Which means less deployments in the future.

If Drones could stop this, there would be no better accomplishment than saving lives of our troops. OORAH!

Electromagnetic Rail Guns
railgun_test-3.jpg
Prototype Naval Rail Gun

What is it?
EM Rail Guns are long range defense weapons that fire using electricity instead of standard chemical propellants like gunpowder. They fire projectiles at around Mach 6, six times the speed of sound, which, in average conditions, equates to about 2,042 meters per second. Current naval rail guns have an effective range of 200 nautical miles, about 230 regular miles.

How does it work?

Railgun Schema.JPG
Diagram showing basic mechanics of a rail gun

Basically, a rail gun is two metal rails connected at one end by an electric power source. If you place a conductive projectile between the rails at the end where the power supply is it completes the circuit, turning it into an electromagnet. This creates a magnetic field around the rails, which is what propels the projectile. On impact there is no burst of flames or visible explosion, just a shock-wave. This is because rail gun ammunition have no explosive warheads in them, the damage they do is solely from kinetic energy.

What will it accomplish?

  • Allows for increased naval mission capability
  • Ability to provide more precise defensive and supportive firepower
  • Eliminate hazards of storing explosives on a ship and undetonated ordinance on a battlefield

Here is a short video demonstrating the basic concepts using a DIY Rail Gun.

Non-lethal Weapons

The basis on Non-lethal weapons is quite an obvious one these weapons are used to subdue the enemy without death these are five weapon built to not kill people for police or military.

ADS (Active Denial System)

The ADS is the is a weapon that fires a focused beam of radio-waves that penetrates 1/64 the way through the skin which gives the nerves a heat sensation which makes people instinctively move away this also has the enemy drop weapons. the ADS also can go through window glass and stops the driver from following them, break up riots

The FN-303 is basically a over sized paint gun use to control riots. this gun controls the crowd or you can just shoot him and have the other police arrest him because of the paint left behind this also has a pepper spray-like round

Graphite bomb

Essential Question

Industrial Revolutions are both beneficial and detrimental to society. They are good because result in a large wave of new technologies that can improve life for everyone and make certain tasks easier to accomplish. Some examples being planes, cars, and trains to help people travel more efficiently and the assembly line to produce products more quickly. They can be harmful because they can lead to younger generations growing accustomed to doing less work and not truly appreciating the things they have. Take cell phones as an example, anyone older than ten, and many times much younger, has one but they just see it as something that they've always had, they don't fully appreciate the work that went into making the device that they use many times each day. This is a major factor in the "I want everything handed to me because I think I deserve it for doing nothing." attitude that much of the American youth has now. Another detrimental effect is that humans are constantly creating more efficient ways to annihilate each, even now it is to the point where another world war could easily result in the death of the majority of the human race.
